Studio
With the dizzying array of computer GUIs taking over sight-lines in the control room, it can be challenging to listen with your ears instead of with your eyes. But with RADAR in the studio, you can turn off the optional monitor, hit record on the Session Controller, and let the music flow. RADAR’s all about taking technology out of your way so that you can be creative and spontaneous. Use RADAR and its Session Controller / Meterbridge for amazing sound and a refreshingly simple approach to studio workflow. Here’s how:
INTEGRATING RADAR WITH YOUR STUDIO is fast and easy. Patch RADAR alongside an analogue or digital mixing console for optimum control, or use it as the front-end of an audio workstation.
MIXING WITH RADAR can tie mixes to the multi-track. Do a stereo mix-down of tracks played out of RADAR, sending the mix back into RADAR for simultaneous recording. Plus, using RADAR as the mix destination preserves the audio’s fidelity straight through to the end.
EDITING WITH RADAR. Editing doesn’t have to happen on a computer screen. RADAR’s dedicated Session Controller can scrub audio with a jog wheel instead of a mouse, add locates and markers on the fly, cut and paste audio regions, and run user-programmable macros – all with 99 levels of undo.
FILE MANAGEMENT WITH RADAR isn’t based on the mouse. Use the file naming presets to automatically name all tracks, takes, punches, crossfades and files. Single-button operations name projects & tracks and also create project clones
FILE TRANSFERS WITH RADAR.
- RADAR’s native BWAV files will take audio anywhere. Pull one of the removable hard drives and plug it into a workstation’s external drive carrier. Or just copy/transfer files using DVD-R, CDR, Blu-ray, a network, or an external drive (eSATA, Firewire, USB).
- Play audio real-time out of RADAR and into your DAW interface using TDIF, AES, ADAT, SPDIF, or MADI.
Film
Whether it’s being used as the recorder for a scoring stage or as a stem recorder for audio post-production, RADAR’s fast lock times, ultra-low jitter clocking, and easy workflow integration ensure projects are completed quickly and easily.
Recording and producing a film’s sound makes up a huge part of any film’s total production process; it’s vital to keep these projects on time and on budget. Let RADAR reduce training and project down time in sound-for-film applications. Here’s how:
Scoring Stages
RADAR’s “RECORD ON CHASE” and “PROJECT PER TAKE” features automate the scoring stage process. Roll back the scene and record it again and again – RADAR is there punching in and out and automatically creating and labeling new takes. At the end of the day, RADAR has done all the work – and the session is completed efficiently in the minimum amount of time.
Audio Post Production
BWAV EXPORT TO DAW. RADAR records natively to BWAV format and gives you the option of exporting to DAW via Gigabit Ethernet or DVD.
ADRENALINE DR recording engine uses a high resolution frequency-synthesized digital phase lock loop (FSD-PLL) to produce unparalleled digital recording fidelity.
SEAMLESS PUNCHES & FILE FLATTENING make it fast and easy to edit and consolidate overdubs.
PROFESSIONAL SYNC: Get speed and positional referencing from a variety of sync sources including: LTC, MTC, Video Sync, Word Clock, and AES/EBU. LTC can be chased in both forward and reverse directions for film applications. RADAR’s internal clock circuitry features multiple dedicated, application-specific PLLs for the best performance possible. RADAR also uses differential clock lines for superior noise rejection meaning a cleaner, more stable clock signal.
The MARK SYNC feature adds an additional marker to an audio region. This sync marker makes it easy to place sounds and sound effects precisely at spotted time code locations.
SONY 9-PIN MACHINE CONTROL slip-lock-to-video implementation “glues” audio to the picture for frame-accurate synchronization and virtual instant lock. RADAR project settings also include selections for the emulation of BVU-950, DVR-1000, APR-24 and RADAR RS-422 IDs.
SOUNDMASTER COMPATIBILITY allows RADAR to be completely controlled from the Soundmaster ION operating environment. Soundmaster uses RADAR’s proprietary Session Controller remote interface to bring every parameter of RADAR operation under EDL control for unprecedented speed and flexibility in creating audio for film and television applications.
MULTIPLE RADARs can be connected via RADARLink for sample-accurate synchronization. Up to 8 RADAR units can be connected for up to 192 tracks of 192 kHz recording.
MADI OPTION BOARD with dual Coax/Optical interface. RADAR is the only recorder on the market with daisy-chainable MADI I/O that presents multiple RADAR units to digital mixing engines as a single, interleaved MADI port.
MACRO KEYS allow users to increase speed and enhance productivity by eliminating repetitive keystrokes on the Session Controller. User-programmable.
Live Sound
Gear has to perform flawlessly time and time again, even under the most challenging circumstances. Trust RADAR to reliably record once-in-a-lifetime performances while it simplifies your workflow.
RADAR really shines in live sound applications. Whether recording a world-tour stadium show or rehearsals for a record project, RADAR makes sure no audio gets left behind. Here’s how:
DUAL DISK RECORDING. At the end of a long session, RADAR hands you an instant backup of your once-in-a life-time laid down master tracks. Give one disk to the client, and keep the other for safety.
With RECORD RECOVERY MODE, RADAR updates essential file information during recording which allows for easy recovery of audio in the event of a venue power failure.
MADI OPTION BOARD with dual Coax/Optical interface. RADAR is the only recorder on the market with daisy-chainable MADI I/O that presents multiple RADAR units to digital mixing engines as a single, interleaved MADI port.
Use iZ FILE MANAGER to give clients performance files quickly and easily. Just drag and drop flattened BWAV recordings into an external Firewire or USB drive.
With its STABLE OPERATING SYSTEM, RADAR’s field-tested recording engine puts it head and shoulders above all other systems for rock solid reliability.
A SYNC ENGINE THAT WON’T QUIT. SMPTE Freewheel and Lock and Drop modes ensure that disappearing time code won’t be a sync show stopper for RADAR. “Lost Sync” record protection keeps the show rolling, even after the complete loss of video, word clock, or AES sync. RADAR automatically marks and labels the drop out point to give the user a heads-up during the mix.
Playback
Enhance impressive visuals with RADARs quality audio and the fastest lock times in the industry. In theatres, amusement parks, space centers and cruise ships, RADAR works hard to streamline playback functions and improve workflow.
In playback environments, a player’s ability to synchronization and direct audio, video, and automation can make or break a show. Let RADAR take the lead and provide a seamless audio-visual experience. Here’s how:
